The Zexcoil® Double Twang™
The Dr. developed the Double Twang for a Tom Petty tribute show. The Double Twang incorporates a single coil voicing in Core 1 using the Fat55 pole piece, and a PAF voicing bit at lower output in Core 2 making Core 2 more Gretsch than Gibson. The series combination of the two Cores is similar to a PAF output, but brighter.
Double Twang 1 for Bridge - Core 1, with the Fat 55 single coil voice, delivers 2.2 H. Core 2 uses the “Juicy” PAF pole piece, but at a relatively low output of 2.6 H for a response like a Filtertron. Combined in series, the two Cores yield about 4.8 H, in the range of a hotter PAF output, but a little brighter due to the substantial single voice influence.
Double Twang 2 for Neck is a lower output version of the DDS1. Core 1 delivers about 1.9 H and Core 2 delivers about 2.2 H. The series output is similar to a Wide Range humbucker. The Fat 55 option can be used in either core and adds a bit more differentiation to the respective voices.
Double Twang™ Sets
This represents a different way to think about the classic dual HB format. The “PAF” mode of this set arises from the series combination of two inherently brighter voicings, so it gives that crunch but with a more open feel. The twangy options with the individual cores make this a very versatile set for anything from Rock, Alternative and Roots to Country.

Dual Core pickups consist of two independent pickups, or “Cores”, side-by-side under a conventionally sized humbucker cover. A Double Twang in the bridge delivers a wide range of tones, all of which are well balanced with single coils in the other two slots.

Dual Core pickups have their covers potted on. Removal will void the warranty.
Left-handed "Z-Core" pickups are only available from the Custom Shop. If you want this feature for a set, here is an option to add to your order. Only necessary for Z-Core pickups.
