Zexcoil NuMuBu Demo: Gear Expo Live

We did a new NuMuBu demo Wednesday, 10/22/14. Anthony Stauffer from Texas Blues Alley joined me in the shop to handle the demo duties. We've done these pretty informally so far, but for this one I added a little more structure. We introduced the basic product technology in a new video, and went through the different voicings and models discussing how they compare. We also demoed a few pickup sets through a few different amps, demonstrating the tonal variety in our line.

This is our NuMuBu Gear Expo Live webcast from October 22, 2014 as it happened. Anthony plays, in order, his Grosh with an Underwound SV5 set (SV5/SV5U/SV5W), Scott's Tokai with an SV5+ set (SV5+/SV5/SV5O), his SRV Strat with a Texas Blues set (SV5+/SV2/SV5O), his Mex Strat with a Convertible Set and Scott's Mex Robert Cray Strat with a Signature Set.

Tone Tuning Technology™

What is it? It's the basis for a lot of what we do. At its heart is a quantitative model that allows us to precisely identify and target tonal response. Using this model, we have studied the pickup design and tonal response space and arrived at a constantly expanding library of coil winding configurations and (most importantly) novel and exotic pole piece materials that enable us to predictably dial in tone just about wherever we want. Here's an example. This plot represents a stylized presentation of our tone space, but it does quantitatively capture the measures that define the tone and output of these pickups. Of course, there is a bit more going on than we can capture in this simplified two-dimensional framework, but hopefully this kind of approach will give our users the ability to navigate the space and make more rational tonal decisions. Look for lots more on this in the coming months.
