The Zexcoil Dual Core™ platform is the newest addition to our arsenal of pickups. Dual Core pickups consist of two independent pickups, or “Cores”, side-by-side under a conventionally sized humbucker cover. The Double Single™ incorporates a single coil voicing in both Cores, that can be run independently or in combination. Opt for the Fat 55 option in one of the Cores for even more versatility.

The Dr. developed the Zexcoil Double Single™ (DDS1) to mimic the higher output single coils that David Gilmour migrated to in the Animals period and after, while also providing the vintage single coil tones from the earlier stuff. Core 1 delivers about 2.2 H, which is a pretty standard vintage output level comparable to the ZVU5 and ZV55. Core 2 yields about 3.7 H which is comparable to a ZMD5 or a Texas Special bridge pickup. Combined in series, the two cores yield an output similar to Gilmour’s high output bridge pickup. Switching between Core 1 and both Cores in series is like a vintage/modern Gilmour switch! The Dr. prefers the Fat 55 option on Core 1, which substitutes the ZV55 pole piece for the standard Z Series 5.
