The Fat Single Special (SFS) utilizes our Fat 5™ approach in a departure from the traditional Strat® tone. Take an AlNiCo 5 frequency response, but fatten it up to the point of saturation and you have a pickup that stretches a Stratty tone to a place that is impossible to get to using conventional pickup materials. The SFS smooths off the rough edges and beefs up the response of the conventional tonality, yielding something we like to call “AlNiCo 5 on steroids”. A little bit hotter and more saturated than the SV5+, the SFS can behave more like a conventional AlNiCo 5 with a light touch, but dig in and it responds with a reserve of power. The SFS makes a great bridge pickup and is featured in some of our Vintage Series Sets™.
